Healthy Shopping List

At times like these we need a pantry full of healthy, healing and delicious food. Here are some ideas for things to have on hand.

Broths and soups- beef, chicken, lamb or a vegetarian broth like a miso base will all work well as a base for soups. Make your own or buy pre-made organic.

Root vegetables- add lots of nutrients and last a long time. potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams and turnips. Turmeric, ginger and other root spices are medicinal and delicious.

Fresh veggies and fruits- Choose a rainbow of veggies and fruits to deliver a variety of vitamins and nutrients. Lemons, limes, cabbage last a long time and have a variety of uses.

Herbs and spices- ginger, cinnamon, onion, garlic, thyme, rosemary, cayenne and all your other favs. Sea salt and pepper of course.

Pantry items- Olive oil, coconut oil, ghee, vinegar. Honey, stevia, tea, coffee. Coconut, almond or oat milk. pesto, sauces. olives. preserved veggies. Mineral water.

Dried foods- beans, legumes, grains like oat, quinoa, popcorn, rice and other grains that work for your diet. Nuts, seeds including chia seeds and nut and seed butters have a long shelf-life and add lots of healthy fats and nutrients. coconut flakes. nutritional yeast. Seed crackers.

Frozen veggies and fruits- Organic frozen veggies like greens, broccoli, cauliflower, berries and fruits are a godsend when stuck inside and need to keep your meals nutrient dense.

Meat, Poultry and Fish- Frozen chicken, lamb, pork, prawns, fish are good staples. Some kid friendly options such as chicken nuggets or fish sticks can mix it up. Look for gluten free options.

Canned Foods- Consider wild-caught fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines- rich in omega-3’ s, iodine and selenium. Great on a salad, wrapped in seaweed or atop a cracker. Canned beans, soups and legumes provide minerals, proteins and fiber. Last a long time on the shelf- check expiration dates.

Chocolate- Hello! can’t forget the most important item;-)

Stock up on toiletries like soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, floss, moisturizer, paper products, pads, tampons.

Meds and supplements- be sure to get a supply of your supplements, prescription meds, contact lenses and any other medical supplies you need.
